The Rembrandt House in Amsterdam is presenting Rembrandt’s exceptional significance to a wide audience in the Amsterdam house where he once resided over twenty years. Rembrandt lived and worked in this magnificent merchant house in the centre of Amsterdam, where he produced some of his most celebrated masterpieces. To this day, he is one of the world’s most renowned artists.

Like many other great painters, Rembrandt struggled financially during his life and had to abandon his home in 1658, which was then auctioned off together with many of his belongings. Nowadays, the beautiful 17th century house functions as the Rembrandt House Museum, which attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors each year. Get a unique glimpse into Rembrandt’s life

Het Rembrandthuis Amsterdam has been renovated and decorated to replicate what it looked like during the time Rembrandt and his wife occupied it. Overall, they lived in this house from 1639 and 1658. The carefully selected antique furniture and decorations will give you a unique glimpse into the artist’s day to day life. Besides providing an immersive 17th-century experience, the Rembrandt House in Amsterdam also features an impressive collection of drawings and sketches by the artist as well as some of his collectibles like butterflies, antlers and taxidermied crocodiles.  

The museum is home to an almost complete collection of Rembrandt’s etchings. 260 out of 290 of the artist’s etchings are in the museum’s possession as well as countless of his drawings and sketches. The exhibition is further brought to life by the artworks of some of Rembrandt’s contemporaries as well as paintings by his mentor, Pieter Lastman. The exhibitions in the Rembrandt House Museum are frequently on rotation and also include loans from other institutions.
