Explore the medieval Netherlands
If you like stories of royalties, empires, armies and walled cities, you will love this tour! We pick you up and we travel to the Middle Ages in our “time machine”. We will visit the city of Utrecht, which became the country’s economic and religious center, and the Castle of Haar, known for being one of the most photographic historical buildings as well as for the countless stories and curiosities captured within its walls during more than six centuries of its lifetime.
Through the labyrinth of streets we will discover the Romanesque churches that form a cross on the map of the city, as this is one of those cities that made their city plan according to the location of their churches during its Christian ages. After the guided tour, we will have time to try some typical food, after which we will visit the Castle of Haar. While it looks medieval, it was actually built in the early 20th century and designed by the famous architect Pierre Cuypers, also known for designing other iconic buildings such as the Rijksmuseum or the Amsterdam Central Station. In the 1960s it became the place where the Van Zuylen family received the international jet set of this time.

1. What happens if it rains?
Our tours run as scheduled, rain or shine! Both De Haar Castle and Utrecht offer plenty of indoor areas to visit. If the weather turns bad, we adjust the itinerary to make your experience as comfortable as possible.
2. Is lunch included during the tour?
Lunch is not included, but as this is a private tour, you can choose where and when to stop for lunch. Your guide will recommend great local restaurants or cafés in Utrecht or near the castle.
3. How many people are in each group?
This is a private tour, so it’s exclusively for your group — no strangers join the trip. You’ll have a dedicated guide and private transportation just for you.
4. Are the tours suitable for children or families?
Yes! Families often enjoy this tour. Both Utrecht and De Haar Castle are fascinating for all ages, and the castle grounds are perfect for kids to explore. Please let us know if you need a child seat for the vehicle.
5. What’s included in the tour price?
The price includes private transportation, an English-speaking guide, and entrance tickets to De Haar Castle. Meals and personal expenses are not included.
01.
Center of the country
You will soak up history here! Although most of the cobblestone streets have been replaced in recent years by concrete surfaces (on the express request of cyclists), the medieval atmosphere has not disappeared from Utrecht. In addition, as it is the starting point of the country, it has been the center of the signing of treaties and unions since its origin. Besides Gibraltar, there are more stories.
02.
Dom, Canals and Adriano VI
St. Martin’s Cathedral (or the Dom church), of which the tower is separated from the main building because of a hurricane, the home of the only Dutch pope in history and double-height canals. What were once warehouses for storing merchandise that came from far, far away, have now become bars with spectacular terraces. And nobody knows how to appreciate the sun as much as the Dutch!
03.
Dutch Grandma's croquettes
There is no more authentic place to try traditional food than in Utrecht. The multitude of restaurants allow us to taste soups, meat and the famous croquettes. And if you want to fully integrate into the local culture, pour yourself a glass of milk to accompany it all.
04.
Haar Castle
Heads up: it looks like something out of a fairy tale and the gardens surrounding this castle seem like they are from a movie. The original construction dates from the end of the XIV century, but its current design is from the XX century. And how much has happened since then! You will be surprised by the stories of the parties that were held inside. It is said that among the guests were from Brigitte Bardot and Coco Chanel to María Callas and Roger Moor

Mislead by cheese farm. They said could purchase cheese and take to other countries. Come to find out, UK has banned EU cheese since April. I was forced to throw it all awayPosted on Manuel S11/09/2025Verified Magnificent excursion with exceptional guidance If you are visiting Amsterdam, you should not miss this tour. The landscapes are dreamy and each city has a different charm: from traditional mills and artisan cheese shops to picturesque fishing villages by the sea. However, what really made this tour unforgettable was our guide Eirien. It is simply exceptional: close, friendly and with an impressive knowledge of each place. Capacity (in covers) to explain the story in a pleasant, fun and very enthusiastic way. Also, we were lucky enough to meet her the day before on a free tour, so to meet her again here was a wonderful surprise. In short, a wonderful experience that I recommend without hesitation.Verified by TrustindexTrustindex verified badge is the Universal Symbol of Trust.
